Hello! I am a lecturer in the European Studies Department at the University of Amsterdam. I received my PhD in Political Science at the University of California, Riverside (UCR).
My experties lies in mass political behavior, political psychology, and comparative politics. My research interests span protest, social movements, state repression, emotions, European politics, economic inequalities and grievances, and quantitative methodology, with a strong emphasis on causal inference. My research is driven by a fundamental question: How do states and citizens negotiate conflict in moments of political and economic strain? More specifically, how do state responses to dissent, democratic institutions, social identities, and emotions interact to shape the dynamics of protest, repression, and political behavior? As such, my research is divided into three themes: (i) the causes and consequences of protester violence, (ii) the relationship between mass political behavior (electoral and contentious) and economic grievances, and (iii) the effects of state repression on collective dissent action. I have two Masters degrees, one in Political Science (MA) from Sabancı University in 2018 and another (MSc) in International Relations from University of Amsterdam in 2019. |
